1965 Triumph 5TA Speedtwin Matching Numbers Original Registration

Here is a stunning 1965 Triumph 5TA Speedtwin, registered as BWL 701C. This classic bike was first registered by Oxfordshire Council on July 13, 1965, and supplied by Kings Motors (Oxford) Ltd. It has matching frame and engine numbers: 5TA H39744, and the date of dispatch from Triumph Factory, Meriden, was on June 3, 1965.

I purchased this bike on June 2, 2016, with recorded mileage of 8,916. It now has 11,431 miles on the clock and has been used only for social and club runs when the weather is fine and dry. The mileage can be verified from MOTs dating back to 1994. However, I’m reluctantly selling off part of my bike collection, including this one, as I’m moving to a new property with only a single garage.

This Speedtwin is a good, clean, and original bike, with all metal panels. The paintwork is from an older restoration and is in excellent condition. The half bathtubs (bikini fairing) were resprayed in silver sheen to match the original specification in December 2017.

This bike is an easy ride, with low compression 7:1, 27BHP power, and 17-inch wheels. It’s not too heavy, weighing in at 340lbs (155kg), and can keep up with modern traffic on A and B roads. It has been converted to 12v by a previous owner, and a new battery was fitted in 2019.

The previous owner, David Dundas, owned the Speedtwin since the vehicle was re-registered with DVLA on November 3, 1983. David Dundas, now Lord Dundas, is a musician and actor best known for his 1976 hit ‘Jeans On,’ which reached #3 in UK charts. I have a copy of the V5 confirming these details.

Last year, in 2022, the following work was undertaken:

Cylinder Head, Rocker Boxes, Inlet Manifold, and Carburettor were professionally cleaned
New inlet and exhaust valves (ground in) and springs were fitted
New head gasket set was installed
New cylinder head bolts were fitted
Petrol tank was cleaned and sealed with SLOSH
New fuel pipe and tap were fitted
Engine, gear box, and primary oil were changed (11,287 miles)
Viewing is available by arrangement, either by calling or via eBay message service.
